George Amado Benitez passed away on May 29, 2024 at the age of 74.  He was born in Victoria, Texas on September 13, 1949 to United States Army Air Corps veteran Juan Benitez and Candelaria Tejeda.  He served his country proudly in the U.S. Marine Corps and was presented with the Navy Achievement Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm and Bronze star and the Vietnam Service Medal with 3 stars for participating in over two hundred combat missions between November 1968 and February 1970. George worked tirelessly to ensure those prisoners of war and missing in action during the Vietnam War were never forgotten. George was a car enthusiast and especially enjoyed playing with his chocolate Labrador retrievers: Jake, Sadie, Chaquita and Duck.

George Benitez is survived by his daughter, Jacquelyn Jordan and grandson, Joseph Edward Jordan; brothers and sisters: Juan Pablo Benitez, Richard Benitez, Cynthia Hernandez, Linda Benitez, Mona Benitez and Rene Benitez along with numerous beloved nieces and nephews.

Visitation will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 6, 2024 at Guardian Funeral Home chapel with a service to celebrate George's life to begin at 12:00 p.m. Burial will follow with full military honors at 2 p.m. at the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery 9974 I.H.37 North Access Road. George will be missed, but never forgotten.
