Obituary

Francisco Sanchez Jr. passed away on July 14, 2026, in Corpus Christi, Texas, at the age of 73. He was born on October 14, 1952, in Corpus Christi, Texas, and lived a life marked by hard work, devotion to family, and a generous spirit that touched many people throughout his years.

Frank was born to the late Francisco Sanchez Sr. and Guadalupe R. Gonzalez. He grew up in Corpus Christi and spent his early years in Robstown, Texas, where he attended Robstown High School. Those who knew him remember a young man with a strong work ethic, a deep sense of responsibility, and a natural willingness to help others. He carried those qualities with him throughout his life and into every job, every friendship, and every family gathering. In his younger years, Frank worked at the original Joe Cotton’s BBQ and at the Robstown Movie Theatre. He later developed a fascination with 18-wheeler trucks and, at a very young age, chose to relocate his family to Tampa, Florida. Over the years, he traveled across the country and held many different jobs, each one reflecting his determination to provide for those he loved. He worked for the City of Corpus Christi, Heldenfeld’s Construction Company, and as a distributor for the American Coca-Cola Company. He also worked for former Mayor Joe McComb at North American Van Lines. One of his favorite jobs was at Ayala’s Towing and Wrecker Company, and his last employment was at John’s Market Convenience Center. Frank was a man who enjoyed life in simple but meaningful ways. He loved car racing at CC Speedway and admired Terry Labonte as one of his favorite drivers. He enjoyed watching wrestling at the Memorial Coliseum and was a devoted fan of WCW. The Bon Eric Brothers, Ric Flair, Rowdy Roddy Piper, Gino Hernandez, Kamala Wahoo McDaniel, and Andre the Giant were among the wrestling stars he followed with enthusiasm.

He especially cherished visiting with family, attending parties, and celebrating holidays. Frank was known for lending a helping hand whenever someone needed it, and he could always be counted on in times of need. He was well known around town, and his presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Family was the center of Frank’s life. He is survived by his beloved wife of more than 30 years, Erica Scholtz, and by his former wife, Angelita A. Sanchez. He leaves behind his children, Mary Ann Sanchez, Diana Sanchez, Francisco Sanchez III, David Sanchez, Rose Mary Alaniz, Cecilia Trevino, Rafaela S. Juarez, Erik Sanchez, Chico Sanchez, Rebecca Scholtz Sanchez, and Joseph Scholtz. He also leaves behind 29 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him great pride and joy. He is also survived by his sisters, Olivia (Sal) S. Galvan and San Juanita (Pablo) S. Saenz, as well as his cousin, Antonia (Jose) R. Luna. Frank will be remembered as loving, generous, and handy, a man whose actions spoke as loudly as his words. His life was a testament to devotion, perseverance, and kindness.

The family wishes to acknowledge Norma L. Gregory and Sylvia Saldana with Blessed Hands Group Home for the very good care they gave Frank during his final days.

His memory will live on in the hearts of his family, his friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know him.

In accordance with the family’s wishes, services will be private.
