IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Filiberto Garcia,
Jr.
March 25, 1945 – March 23, 2023
Filiberto passed away suddenly on Thursday, March 23, 2023. He would have turned 78 that following Saturday. He was born on March 25th, 1945, to Filiberto Garcia Sr. and Consuelo Robles Garcia in Cuero, TX.
After graduating high school, he attended Victoria Jr College and then moved to Kingsville to enroll at Texas A&I University to study his favorite subject, Chemistry. He met his wife in college. Filiberto started his employment at Celanese Corporation in Bishop, Texas. He worked as a Lab Technician until 1995. He loved his job and his co-workers.
Filiberto spent the rest of his life giving back to his community. Filiberto served as Chairman of the Board for LULAC Westpark Apartments, and LULAC Amistad Apartments, both non-profits that provide affordable housing for those in need. His new passion became attending housing finance conferences, and his favorite topic to discuss was tax credits – a subject that his family thought was boring! In addition to this role, Filiberto made many new friends volunteering at Christus Spohn Health Plaza. He was a member of the Corpus Christi Downtown Lions Club and an Honorary member of SAGA. (Spanish American Genealogy Association)
Filiberto was not just a great family man; he lived a full life of service to his community, faith, and love for his family and many friends. He was a man of faith and a devoted member of Most Precious Blood Catholic Church, where he served in many roles, including President of the Men's Club. Filiberto also supported and volunteered with the Church's Boy Scout Troop, and one of his fondest memories was when his son achieved the Eagle Scout Award.
Filiberto was preceded in death by his parents, his sister and brother-in-law Esther and Ernest De Los Santos, and his brothers-in-law Celestino Villarreal and Ernest Moreno. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Sylvia Bazan Garcia; his twins –beloved daughter, Iliana Renee Garcia, and beloved son, Sergio Rene Garcia. Also, his sister, Ita (Raul) Garcia, his sister Dora Villareal, his sister Celia Moreno from San Antonio, and his brother Robert (Luz) Garcia from Austin and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by all who had the good fortune to have known him.
