Obituary

Eugene Harold Bouligny, a dedicated and selfless community leader and philanthropist, who believed strongly in the power of education, passed away on September 13, 2024 at the age of 91.

Known for his word, handshake, integrity, generous spirit, and witty sense of humor, "Gene", as he was affectionately known, was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His time on this earth was one marked by an unwavering dedication to education and generosity to his community.

Gene was born on May 1, 1933 to John Edward and Mabel Helen Bouligny. He graduated from Wharton County Junior College in 1952 and attended University of Texas in 1952 and 1953. He served in the United States Army from 1953 until 1955. After which, he returned and graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1956. He went on to work for Lederle Labs from 1956 to 1988. Beginning in 1988, he commenced investing his fulltime and business in the Corpus Christi area, giving sums to various charitable institutions in town.

Throughout his life, he served as both a member and President on the board of Del Mar College Foundation. He also served on the boards of The Art Center of Corpus Christi and The Coastal Bend Community Foundation. Over the course of his life, he gave graciously to charities, often anonymously. He was a catalyst in launching donation challenges to Del Mar College Foundation and was one of the contributors who donated the Economic Development Center building. He has left a lasting impact on Del Mar College, and on the lives of generations of Vikings. He leaves behind a legacy as one of Corpus Christi's most anonymous philanthropists'.

He is preceded in death by his parents, John Edward Bouligny and Mabel Helen Bouligny, his brothers, John Edward Bouligny and Donald Bouligny, and his first spouse, Ella Bouligny.

He is survived by his wife, Carmen Bouligny, his siblings, James (Zoe) Bouligny, and Mary Beth Tuttle, and his step-son, Jason (Malory) Rodriguez.
