IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Enrique C.
Hernandez
December 1, 1931 – December 11, 2024
Enrique C. Hernandez, beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, proud Korean War Army veteran, and lifetime member of the American Legion Post #364, passed away peacefully on December 11, 2024, at the age of 93.
Born in Corpus Christi, Texas, on December 1, 1931, Enrique was one of eight brothers and sisters born to Manuel Hernandez and Aeropajita Castillo Hernandez. He was raised with a strong sense of family and the Catholic faith that guided him throughout his entire life.
He was preceded in death by his eldest son, Henry Tiger Hernandez. His survivors include his cherished wife of 60 years, Janie; his beloved daughter, Monica Brenner (John); his youngest son, Demetrio (Carmen); and his six treasured grandchildren: Maddie, Christopher, Miles, Ariana, Allie, and Jordan.
Enrique honorably served his country during the Korean Conflict as a member of the First Cavalry Division of the United States Army, a duty he upheld with great pride. His love for his country endures to this day as evidenced by the American flag prominently displayed in the front yard of his home. After his honorable discharge, Enrique went to work at Nueces News Agency, where he was a dedicated employee for 44 years before retiring in 1996 as a highly respected employee known for his work ethic and dependability. It was while working at Nueces News Agency that he met the love of his life, Janie Vargas, after an introduction by her sister. They married soon after, and they had just recently celebrated their 60 the wedding anniversary on November 28, 2024. Together they raised a family in a home filled with love and laughter.
Enrique took great joy in sharing and participating in the lives of his children and grandchildren, who brought him endless pride and happiness. "Grandpa" will be deeply missed, but his memory and legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
