Emelda Ann Alvarado, 63, passed away unexpectedly on Christmas Day, December 25, 2024. She was called home while surrounded by her beloved family, creating cherished memories that will forever remain in their hearts.
Born on October 27, 1961, in Corpus Christi, Texas, to Estevan Sr. and Andrea Alvarado, Emelda spent her early years in her hometown. The family later moved to Dallas, where she graduated from Kimball High School. Emelda began her career working at a local grocery store before joining Balfour in the Dallas area. In 1990, she welcomed her greatest blessing, her daughter Jessica. Shortly after, she returned to Corpus Christi, where she worked for First Data for many years. Most recently, Emelda became a treasured team member at the H-E-B Plus Store on Saratoga, serving for 18 years.
Emelda was a devoted mother, grandmother, and a die-hard Houston Astros fan. She loved spending time with her family and trying her luck on slot machines whenever she could. Her strong work ethic and dedication were evident in all aspects of her life, and she took immense pride in her daughter, Jessica, and her granddaughter, Jaelynn, whom she adored beyond measure. She also considered Jovani and Jaydyn Martinez her grandchildren, showering them with the same unconditional love.
Emelda was a source of unwavering support and encouragement, a true cheerleader in all her loved ones' endeavors. Known as "Grammy," she was a devoted mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, niece, cousin, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
She is survived by her daughter, Jessica A. Alvarado (Eric Martinez), and her granddaughter, Jaelynn Lugo.
Emelda is preceded in death by her parents, Estevan Sr. and Andrea Alvarado and by her extended family, including her brother Estevan Alvarado Jr., and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins from the Alvarado and Garza families.
Serving as pallbearers will be Eric Martinez, Jovani Martinez, Joe Garza Jr., Eloy Garza, Jose Garza, and Jacob Chadis.
Public visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at Guardian Funeral Home Chapel, beginning at 4:00 p.m., with a Holy Rosary recited at 6:30 p.m., followed by shared memories of Emelda's life.
