ELVIRA GONZALEZ SAN MIGUEL

Jan. 25, 1935 – Aug. 3, 2022

Our beloved Mother and Matriarch, Elvira Gonzalez San Miguel, sadly passed away at her residence surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2022. We were blessed that she was on this earth for 87 years. She sought the comfort of her precious father's embrace and followed him home at long last to the welcoming arms of her dearly departed loved ones.

Mom was born on Jan. 25, 1935 in Cerralvo, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. The place she dreamed of and yearned for until the end. Where she worked on the ranches and raised farm animals alongside her family. Although she resided in Corpus Christi, Texas most of her life, Cerralvo was her home.

She is preceded in death by her husband of nearly 50 years Fructuoso Montemayor San Miguel, her father Delfino Gonzalez Alvizo, mother Maria Martinez Maldonado, daughter Rosie "Chayo" San Miguel, grandson Matthew A. Lopez, and brothers Roberto Gonzalez, Carlos Gonzalez, & Delfino Gonzalez II.

She is survived by her children Maria San Miguel, Elvira San Miguel Johnson (Michael), Mike San Miguel, Isabel San Miguel, and her many grandchildren & great grandchildren whom she loved and adored unconditionally.

Our mother never met a stranger. All who entered her home were graciously welcomed. She was "mom" to all who knew her.  She never failed to give you her blessing. She was a true example of the Gospel of Matthew 25:35 – "For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me."

Mom was a fantastic cook and made everything from "scratch". No matter how tired and overworked she was, we had three meals a day. We always looked forward to her mouthwatering baked goods, especially during the holidays. We have wonderful memories of our time with her and the traditions she passed on.  She was our Super Mom!

Her passion was gardening, the epitome of a green thumb.  She was known for her effortless talent in growing any plant or flower and could name each one as she beamed with pride.

She organized all camping, fishing and out of town trips. If anything was needed, mom had it. She packed everything but the kitchen sink on every trip. If something broke, she fixed it herself and made it work. Her many skills were astounding.

Not just a homemaker, she was one of the few pioneering women who worked as hard as any man for the Butter Krust Baking Company. For many years she experienced shift changes, long hours and incredibly hard backbreaking work. And afterwards would return home to continue the tasks of raising her family.  Her remarkable work ethic was an example to us all.

Mom's unwavering Catholic faith carried her throughout her trials and tribulations in life. She overcame all obstacles, stretching every hard-earned dollar to give us the best life possible.

Our most cherished Mother will be remembered for her great generosity, her tender heart, and her boundless love of family and friends. But most of all for her fierce independence, tenacity, and phenomenal strength.

Hasta que nos volveremos a ver otra vez nuestra querida Madre y Amor Eterno.
