IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Elpidia F.
Gonzalez
March 4, 1935 – November 20, 2022
Elpidia F. Gonzalez (Elie or Al), passed away on Sunday, November 20th, 2022, in the comfort of her own home, at the age of 87 years young.
She was born in Cuero, Texas on March 4th, 1935, to Geronimo and Martina Galindo Flores.
Elpidia was raised here in Corpus Christi, Texas by Jesus and Isidra Sanchez.
She is survived by her three children Irma (Oscar Jr.) Vela, Ida Rangel and Maurice Gonzalez Ill; six grandchildren Omar and Jennifer Vela, Stephanie (Joe) Reyes and Pamela (Maria) Rangel, Maurice (Megan) Gonzalez and Victoria (William) Fox; and nine great grandchildren; and her siblings Beatrice (Robert) Romo, Tom (Yolanda) Olivarez, and Yolanda (Rudy) Nunez; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her siblings Anita (Albert Sr.) Orosco, Jerry (Helen) Flores, Mary Alice Olivarez, and Elizabeth Quintela. She was previously married to Mauricio C. Gonzalez Jr, who passed away on April 21st, 2004.
Elpidia loved to dress up, put on a sequin top to dance the night away. She especially loved events such as Halloween and Cinco de Mayo. She stayed active by traveling around the world with her son who was in the military. She also played chair volleyball tournaments at the senior center. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, friend, grandmother and great grandmother who made time for everyone.
Whether it was volunteering at St. Joseph's Church fish fry during Lent or taking her grandchildren to the bay front with day old bread to feed the seagulls. She was always the life of the party, but she was also a strong-willed, successful, independent woman and business owner. From running her own hair salon, flower shop, and small catering business, she was always wanting and willing to do anything for anyone. Especially her family.
Last but not least, one of her favorite phases to say to anyone who would disagree with her would be " go jump in the ocean ".
Public visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m. Friday, November 25, 2022, at Guardian funeral home with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 6:30 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph Catholic church at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 26, 2022. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens cemetery.
