Obituary

Elizabeth Gonzalez, lovingly known as "Liz," passed away peacefully on October 6, 2025, surrounded by her family and close friends. She was a cherished mother, sister, daughter, tía, and friend who departed this world too soon at the age of 53 in Corpus Christi, Texas. Liz was born and raised in Houston, Texas, and attended schools in Port Houston.

Liz's warmth and kindness touched everyone she met. She had a deeply motherly spirit, affectionately calling loved ones mija and mijo. A great listener and the best supporter anyone could hope for, she always offered guidance, care, and love to all members of her family. She found great joy in spending time with loved ones, especially during holiday gatherings, where her delicious food and laughter were a centerpiece of every celebration.

Liz had a passion for cooking for her family and friends, but she also enjoyed exploring new restaurants and trying different foods. She loved taking cruises with her friends, watching sunrises and sunsets from the beach, binge-watching favorite shows, and lending an ear to anyone in need. In her younger years, she loved to dance, a love she carried with her throughout her life. The family would turn to Liz for help with crafting, whether it was to get someone's homecoming mum ready or with wedding decorations—her hands in those special moments will be forever cherished. Liz also dedicated many years to Johnson Controls as a Customer Service Assistant, faithfully working there until her health no longer allowed.

Liz's journey through life was marked by resilience, love, and she was a fighter in every sense of the word. When she was faced with the biggest life challenge, she fought with a strength that inspired those around her. Her faith and love for Christian music were a source of joy and solace for her, helping her feel better during difficult times.

Elizabeth was the cherished daughter of Jimmy Anthony Gonzalez and Amelia Perez Mendoza. She was preceded in death by her father and her dear grandson, Anthony Javier Magallanez, both of whom she is now dancing with in heaven.

Liz's pride and joy was the love for her family. Liz's memory will forever be honored by her four beloved children: Miguel Angel Godinez Jr., Jimmy Anthony Godinez, Catherine Guillermina Munoz, and Constance Marie Magallanez (Mario). A devoted single mother, she ensured her children were always cared for, fed, and nurtured, instilling values of strength and love of family that will continue to thrive through them.

Elizabeth's bond with her siblings—Yvonne Gonzalez and Erica Gonzalez Moreno (Joe) —was one of profound love and support. She is also survived by siblings Xavier Mendoza (Karina), Jimmy Anthony Gonzalez Jr., and Sarah Marie Gonzalez. Together, they created a tapestry of shared memories that will be cherished forever. She also leaves behind her adored grandson, Mario Luis Magallanez, whom she loved dearly.

Liz had a generous heart that extended beyond her immediate family. She loved her nieces and nephews deeply—Ashley (Saul), Juan Jr. (Kimberly), Thomas, Johnathan aka Chuco, Lucas, Dominique (Danny), Sahara, Joe III, Aidan, Dylan, Evelyn, Yeshua, Xavi, and Greyson—always taking time to connect, support, and make them feel valued. Whether through a text, FaceTime, social media post, a meal, or simply her warm presence, she left a lasting imprint on everyone she touched.

She is survived by her uncle Andy and aunt Margaret Gonzalez, her cousins Cynthia (Ray) and Linda (Johnny), numerous great-nieces and great-nephews, and other cherished relatives, all of whom were significant figures in her life.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the hospice staff at Harbor Hospice and all of Liz's close friends for their unwavering support during her time of need. Their compassion made a profound difference in her life and provided comfort to her family during this difficult period.
In honor of Elizabeth's life, funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at Guardian Funeral Home in Corpus Christi, Texas. Public viewing will begin at 4:00 p.m., followed by a service at 6:30 p.m. Friends and family are invited to gather and celebrate the beautiful life she led, sharing stories of love, and the radiant mark she has left on our hearts.

Elizabeth Gonzalez's loving spirit and generous heart will live on in the memories of those she loved and who loved her. As we say our goodbyes, we find solace in knowing that her love will continue to guide us, and her strength will forever inspire us. Rest in peace, dear Liz; you will be deeply missed.

Forever in our hearts.
