IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Elisa Balboa
Maldonado
October 10, 1944 – May 2, 2025
Elisa Balboa Maldonado entered Eternal Life on May 2, 2025. She was born on October 10, 1944 to Esteban and Balbina Balboa in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Elisa, Lisa, or "Chopi," to her closest friends, attended Sacred Heart Elementary school, Robert Driscoll Junior High, and was a 1963 graduate of Roy Miller High School. Throughout her life she proudly told anyone who would listen, "Once a Buc, ALWAYS a Buc!"
Throughout her career she worked in various clerical and administrative assistant positions, mostly in the medical field. These positions took her to area hospitals, ophthalmologists, the Nueces County Medical Society, Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Texas, and finally Humana where she retired in 2022.
She LOVED to cook. Although she had a small family, she ALWAYS cooked as though she had an army to feed. She enjoyed baking cakes, pan de polvo, and many other sweet treats whenever the mood struck. Neighbors, friends, and extended family members will remember and miss the knock on the door or phone call indicating they would be the fortunate recipient of her cooking or baking sessions.
When she was not preparing something in the kitchen, she enjoyed watching occasional telenovelas, Law and Order: SVU, The Voice, American Idol, and she loved her Dallas Cowboys and Houston Astros.
Elisa loved her dogs. Over the last 40 years she raised, or helped raise, approximately 13 dogs including an American Eskimo, Daschunds, Boxers, and Schnauzers.
Elisa was also known for having a green thumb. She was constantly working on her plants, offering advice on how to save or maintain different types of plants, or planting seeds to establish growth in order to gift them to someone else.
Elisa was preceded in death by her father, Esteban, her mother, Balbina, Rodolpho her brother, and Rosario Calderon, her sister. She is survived by her sons, Robert and Stephen (Elena Gomez), Charlotte, her granddaughter, Marina Hefley her sister, and various nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank John and Nicole Flores, and all of the nurses and caregivers with Serenity & Grace Hospice, especially Ashley, Yesenia and Tanya. Thanks to their dedication and care, the family experienced a peace of mind that came from knowing Elisa was in excellent hands and a beautiful environment in her final weeks.
At the request of the family, the burial will be private.
In Lieu of flowers, please leave a condolence down below in the online registry.
