It is with heavy hearts that we bid farewell to Eligio Martinez, who peacefully entered into eternal rest on July 8th, 2017. He was born on October 23, 1941 in Corpus Christi, Texas to Juan and Maria Jesusa Martinez. After high school, he married the love of his life, Yolanda. Together they started a small restaurant serving delicious authentic Mexican food. Eventually, that small restaurant would become six Eligio's Restaurants throughout the city. Eligio was a man who always worked hard because he believed that good things came to those who earned them. He was a generous man not only to his family but also to his many friends. His sense of humor and honesty will be greatly missed by all of us lucky enough to have known him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Ernesto and Enrique Martinez, and his mother-in-law, Esperanza Quesada.
Eligio is survived by his wife of 57 years, Yolanda; their six children, Cindy (Richard), Annette (Phillip), Richard, Roland (Elizabeth), Liane (Fabian), Alanna (John); thirteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Other survivors include his three siblings, Eliseo (Pam), Estella, Elvira (Eugenio), and sister-in-law Linda, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 14, 2017 from 5:00 to 9:00 pm at Guardian Funeral Home (5922 Crosstown Expressway), with a rosary beginning at 7 p.m. A memorial mass will be held at a later time.
