IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Edwin Bassett
Edwards Iii
December 5, 1939 – September 13, 2025
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Edwin B. Edwards III, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who left this world on September 13, 2025, at the age of 85. Edwin was born on December 5, 1939, in Corpus Christi, Texas, where he would spend his life surrounded by family, friends, and the vibrant community he cherished.
Edwin was the proud son of Edwin B. Edwards Jr. and Odelia M. Edwards, both of whom preceded him in death. He cherished the values instilled in him by his parents, carrying their legacy through his own life and the lives of his children. Edwin is survived by his devoted wife, Christine D. Edwards, and their loving children, Edwin B. Edwards IV (Maria Patricia) and Nancy J. Edwards (Angel Hinojosa). He was a proud grandfather of Edwin B. Edwards V, leaving behind a legacy of love that will continue through his family.
On July 19, 1959, Edwin married Christine at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Corpus Christi, Texas. Their love story, spanning over six decades, was one of partnership, laughter, and unwavering support. Together, they created a warm and loving home that welcomed family and friends alike.
Edwin served his country honorably in the U.S. Marine Corps, where he was a Machine Gunner from December 18, 1956, to December 17, 1959, completing his boot camp training at MCRD in San Diego, California. His service instilled in him a profound sense of duty and respect for others, values that he carried throughout his life. After his military service, Edwin began a long and fulfilling career at Reynolds Metal Company, where he worked as an Operator Assistant from March 31, 1960, until his retirement on October 12, 1999. He took great pride in his work and the contributions he made to his community through his employment.
Edwin was an active member of various organizations, including the Masonic DelMar Lodge #1350, where he was a Scottish Rite Mason at the 32nd degree and a member of the York Rite. He was also a proud Shriner, dedicating countless hours to charitable endeavors and community service. His commitment to service extended beyond the Masonic community, as he was a Little League Baseball Coach, a Softball Pitcher, and served as the PTA President, all while sharing his passion for golf and hunting with those around him.
A loving and dedicated family man, Edwin found joy in every moment spent with his loved ones. He was a guiding light, a source of wisdom, and a pillar of strength for his family and friends. His laughter, kindness, and generosity will forever be remembered and cherished.
Visitation will be held at Guardian Funeral Home on Thursday, September 18th from 4pm to 8pm. Visitation will continue at 9am on Friday, September 19th at Guardian Funeral Home. There will be a Funeral Procession departing at 12pm going to Lexington Baptist Church for a 1pm service. The burial will follow at 2:30pm at Rose Hill. It is a time to reflect on the wonderful memories shared and the indelible mark Edwin has left on all of our hearts. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Edwin's memory, contributing to the legacy of love and service he so passionately embodied. Edwin B. Edwards III will be profoundly missed, but his spirit will live on through the lives he touched and the love he shared.
