Earl Gordon Carter passed away on Monday, August 14, 2023 at the age of 96. He was born in Nashville, Tennessee to Benjamin C. Carter and Birdie Elizabeth Kilgore on July 14,1927. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and great great grandfather.
Earl Gordon is preceded in death by his parents Benjamin Carter and Birdie Elizabeth Kilgore and his wife of 75 years Juanita Ruth Dunton Carter, his sister Rachel Kuykendall and brother Donald Carter and his son Steve G. Carter.
Earl Gordon served in the U. S. Navy during WW2 as a Firefighter & Seabee and served in the Navy as a carpenter during the Korea Era. He also served in the Tennessee Guard in the early 1940's. He was a civilian Firefighter for the Corpus Christi Navy Base. He was with the Corpus Christi Fire Department as a Firefighter II for over 30 years. He was Firefighter of the year in 1979. He was a skilled carpenter and mechanic. He volunteered as a Scout Master for his son's Boy Scouts troops. He was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Men's Group.
Earl Gordon is survived by his sons Leslie G. (Sandi) Carter of Navarre, FL and Robert G. Carter of Corpus Christi. His daughters Juanita Elaine Carter of Corpus Christi and Wilma (Daniel) Cantu of The Woodlands, TX, grandson Bobby Gene Carter of Corpus Christi, daughter in law Sherry Carter of Corpus Christi, and his brother in law Leroy Darrow of Corpus Christi His grandchildren Richard G. Carter, Christi (Dave) Johnson, Jeannie Carter, Samuel G. (Annette) Carter, Adam G. Carter, Sarah Carter and Zachary D. Cantu. He has 9 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Family will have a gathering on Tuesday, August 22, 2023 at the Guardian Funeral Home Chapel from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
Services will be at Noon on
Wednesday, August 23, 2023
at Guardian Funeral Home Chapel.
Interment will follow with full military honors at the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. 9974 I.H. 37 North Access Rd.
