Obituary

Mom was born March 20, 1944, to James and Zadie Long in San Antonio, TX. She was the third daughter of four girls: Patsy, Shirley, and Karen.

Mom met her husband at a church social and not long after she married our Dad, Maurice L. Shaw Jr. on Feb. 1, 1963. Their strong faith and love for Jesus would be how they lived their lives and raised their children, Michele L. Fowler, "Mici" (Sam), Marcie L. Kucera (Eric), and Maurice L. Shaw III, "Trey" (Isabel). Mom's life was in support of her husband, "Jr.", her children, and making a home for them. If you asked her, she would share with you about what the "kids" were doing and about the antics of the animals at Fowler Farm.

Mom and Dad lived in many places during their lifetime but the majority of their lives were spent here in Corpus Christi for 30 years. They owned Mason's TV together where they had many great years. They were members of Lexington Baptist Church, regularly attending, almost every time the doors were open. Later they moved to Harlingen for new jobs and joined the congregation at Calvary Baptist Church. They enjoyed the people they met there and many became lifelong friends. Health issues relocated them to Pearland and later her back to Corpus Christi.

Mom was an avid reader, crossword puzzle lover, and Scrabble and Upword opponent. Word games were her favorite. She loved a slice of our Granny's homemade chocolate pie, all things green, a good book especially The Good Book, and Jesus. She looked forward to her visits to LaVernia to spend time with her sister, Karen, and her family.

She loved her grandchildren: Richele Wilbanks, Christopher Fowler (Chloe), Joshua Fowler (Liz), Rianne Wilbanks, Curtis Pearson, Kaitlin Kucera, Hannah Kucera, Samantha Fowler, Kirstin Kucera, Faith Kucera, Halle Chapa, Chloe Shaw, and Tyler Shaw. Great-grandchildren: Jayden Reneau, Jenna Reneau, Isaiah Nguyen, Emma Dye, Eriel McGinn, and Everly Sass.

The last four months of Mom's life were difficult due to medical complications. She was lively, sassy, and strong through every trial. She even shared her faith with medical staff and reminded her grandchildren to "go to church" and prioritize Jesus in their lives. As we walked with her through numerous visits to the ICU and multiple hospital and rehab stays, she remained until the end a fighter and as always, an outspoken woman.

Mom was preceded in death by her parents, James "Jimmy" and Zadie Long, and her husband, Maurice L. Shaw Jr, and her sisters, Patsy Barry, and Shirley Gribble.

In lieu of flowers, our family is asking that donations be made to one of the following charities that were special to Mom.

Our time on earth with Mom has ended but one day we will see her again.

"This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: but if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." -‭‭1 John‬ ‭1‬:‭5‬-‭9‬ ‭KJV‬‬
