IN LOVING MEMORY OF
D.J.
Gonzalez
September 7, 1942 – September 25, 2024
It is with great sorrow that we share Delio Julio "D.J." Gonzalez, 82, went to be with his Lord and Savior on September 25, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on September 7, 1942, in Alice, Texas, DJ was the eldest son of Teodoro Rocha Gonzalez and Maria Limon Gonzalez. A proud United States Marine, DJ served his country with honor, courage, and dedication. His years in the Marine Corps reflected his commitment to duty and a deep sense of patriotism, values he carried with him throughout his life.
The love story between DJ and his wife, Sylvia, began when they were high school sweethearts who met in class when he asked her for a paper and pencil. This year, they celebrated 60 beautiful years of marriage, a bond that grew stronger with time and stood as an extraordinary example of love, devotion, and partnership rooted in their Christian faith. Their enduring relationship was a source of inspiration to all who knew them.
DJ was a deeply loving and supportive father to his three children, Mark, Kimberly, and Lisa. He was a great provider, always working tirelessly to ensure the well-being and happiness of his family. His hard work and leadership extended beyond the home and into his career at the U.S. Postal Service, where he served as a shining example of diligence, leadership, and empathy, working his way from letter carrier to station manager of the Lamar Park Post Office. He treated colleagues with respect and was admired for his ability to balance firmness and compassion, a testament to the kind of man he was in all areas of his life.
In addition to his devotion to his family, DJ shared a special bond with his brothers, Mario, Jesus and Teodoro Gonzalez. Together, they forged a lifelong connection, marked by love, laughter, and unwavering support. Whether they were reminiscing over old memories or simply enjoying each other's company, DJ and his brothers were always there for one another, an exemplification to the strength of their brotherhood.
DJ was also a dedicated servant of his faith. As a deacon at Primera Iglesia Bautista, he was a church leader who loved serving his fellow church members in various capacities. Over the years, he touched many lives as a Sunday school teacher, Youth Group leader, President of the Deacons, and even Interim Pastor. DJ also served on the Texas Executive Baptist Board. His faith and dedication to his church community were evident in everything he did; from offering spiritual guidance to simply making the coffee for fellowship gatherings—an act that showcased his humility and care for others.
As a grandfather, his heart was full of joy for his five grandchildren, Jeremy, Emily, Ryland, Noah, and Zoe, who brought him immense pride. He was always there for his family, offering advice, love, laughter, and an unyielding presence. He is survived by his loving wife, Sylvia, his children, Mark and his wife Michelle, Kimberly, and Lisa and her husband Ken, along with his five grandchildren and extended family.
A celebration of his life, love, faith, and service will be held at Primera Iglesia Bautista, 1509 Tarlton St. Corpus Christi, Texas 78415, on Wednesday, October 2, 2024 , at 5 p.m. for viewing and 6 p.m. for the service, where family and friends are invited to honor the legacy of DJ, with a reception following in the church's fellowship hall.
