On May 11, 2022, Deanna Barrera, 61 passed away after a short illness. Born June 4, 1960, Deanna was the youngest of five children born to Abel and Gloria Y. Barrera. After graduating from W.B. Ray High School in 1978, Deanna attended North Texas State University and later began her 40-year career as a flight attendant for Southwest Airlines. Her work afforded her the opportunity to see the world. From a very early age, Deanna developed a love of dancing especially country-western dance. She was a competitive dancer and won her share of competitions. She was a devout Catholic that believed in the power of prayer and faithfully attended mass. She was a charismatic, compassionate person that always tried to make the world a better place. Her compassion also led her to develop a love of animals, often fostering dogs and feeding stray cats. She became active in volunteering for organizations such as Gulf Coast Humane Society, P.A.A.C.(People Assisting Animal Control), The Cattery and PeeWee's Pet Adoption. Deanna is preceded in death by her father, Abel M. Barrera Sr., her mother, Gloria Y. Barrera, her nephew, Abel Barrera III and her brother-in-law, Toby Vasquez. She is survived by her sister, Cynthia and her brothers Abel (Delia), Nestor (Thelma) and Arthur (Irma), as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be mailed in Deanna's name to P.A.A.C. at 5804 Ayers St. Corpus Christi TX 78415.

There will be a visitation on Monday May 16th at 4-8pm with the Holy Rosary to be recited at 630pm. The following day there will be a Funeral Mass held at SS Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church at 10am with the burial to follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park at 1130am.
