IN LOVING MEMORY OF
David G.
Torres
March 29, 1949 – January 16, 2024
David G. Torres, age 74, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on January 16, 2024, in Corpus Christi, Texas. David's journey was one defined by compassion, selflessness, and a deep sense of responsibility towards those he held dear. From a young age, he exhibited a relentless work ethic and remarkable kindness that would become the cornerstone of his life.
David was born March 29, 1949 in Cerritos, San Luis Potosí, Mexico to Mother Rosa Torres Guerrero and Father David Torres. He is the third oldest of 9 siblings. In the early 1960s, David and his father traveled to Chicago for work. At the young age of 15 David began to work long physical hours to help his father provide for his family back home. David worked tirelessly, pulling double shifts, and was persistent in proving his value by tackling any opportunity to work extra.
During his time in Chicago, David frequently traveled back to Mexico to visit family. During his visits, he met his first wife, Zorina; she followed him back to Chicago, where they had four sons: David, Eddie, Ismael, and Fabian Torres.
In 1981, David left Chicago and moved his young family to Marin, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. David's family resided there for three years when he decided to look for work in the US. In 1984, David was passing through Texas heading to Houston; at a bus stop in Victoria, David unexpectedly decided to travel back to Corpus Christi. This spontaneous decision would end up being where David moved his family, and it became his permanent residence.
In 1990, David met his soulmate Maria, and they provided each other unwavering support and love. Through this partnership, David's family expanded by welcoming five stepchildren. David and Maria were committed to one another for over 34 years.
In his professional life, David excelled with diligence and dedication. His commitment to excellence was reflected in every aspect of his work, earning him the respect and admiration of his colleagues. David devoted 15 years to General Motors and an additional 28 1/2 years of his life to H-E-B as a warehouse maintenance mechanic.
In David's final chapter, he found immense joy and comfort in the presence of his partner, children, grandchildren, and friends. In addition, he spent a significant amount of time at Broadmoor Senior Center, where he delighted in creating memories with new friends.
David was a pillar of strength for his family. He was not just a provider but a mentor, a guide, and a friend. David's influence extended beyond his immediate family. His warm smile, gentle spirit, and willingness to lend a helping hand endeared him to friends, family, and neighbors alike.
Though David's physical presence may no longer grace our lives, the love he shared, the lessons he taught, and the memories he created will forever remain in our hearts. In this time of sorrow, let us remember the joy he brought into our lives and celebrate the legacy of a life well-lived.
David is preceded in death by his parents, David Torres and Rosa Torres Guerrer; sister, Adoracion Torres.
