Obituary

David Lee Ferguson, a cherished family man and respected community member, passed away on August 17, 2025, at the age of 77 in Corpus Christi, Texas. Born on April 30, 1948, in McCook, Nebraska, to Dean and Bonnie (Myers) Ferguson, David's life was a testament to the power of love, creativity, and kindness.

After graduating from Palisade High School in 1966, David honorably served his country in the Marine Corps from August 15, 1966, to July 27, 1972. His dedication to service was a defining characteristic that he carried throughout his life. Following his military tenure, David embarked on a successful 20-year career in the construction business, where his hard work and leadership were highly valued.

In February 1973, David married the love of his life, Jeannette Ann Bauer, in McCook, Nebraska. Together, they raised a family and built a life filled with joy and adventure. David was a devoted father and grandfather, always eager to share his passions with his loved ones. He enjoyed fishing in local lakes, participating in regional bass tournaments, and coaching his children's baseball and softball teams. A sports enthusiast, he relished road trips to Kansas City for Royals baseball games, days at Worlds of Fun amusement park, or cheering on the Denver Broncos.

In 2004, David and Jeannette moved to Corpus Christi, Texas, to join their children, Jon and Mindy. There, David's role as a grandfather flourished as he immersed himself in the lives of his grandchildren, supporting them in Boy Scout activities, soccer games, and school events. He cherished taking them to the aquarium and Cole Park, and he was a constant presence at their various sporting events and Special Olympics.

David's interests extended beyond sports; he was a regular at the local bingo hall and enjoyed late-night games of Pitch and Texas Hold 'em poker. His culinary skills were legendary, especially his perfected family recipes for Banana Bread, Carrot Cake, Pineapple Upside-down cake, and the unforgettable Better than Sex Cake. His famous GORP, a delightful mix of raisins, peanuts, licorice, hot tamales, M&M's, and a surprise candy, was a treat he generously shared with neighbors, friends, and family.

David was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Jeannette, and his treasured grandson Caleb Ferguson. He is survived by his loving family: son Jon Ferguson and wife Nikki; grandchildren Josh and Jake Ferguson, special grandchildren Raena and Dominic Medina; daughter Mindy Ferguson and grandchildren Hayden, Jolee, and Shelby Connelly; brother Denny Ferguson and wife Shirley; sister Lynn Talley; nephews Dennis and wife Jessica, Derek and wife Cherly; and niece Christa Fritson and husband Mark.

David's legacy is one of unwavering love and kindness, creativity in all aspects of life, and a kindness that touched the hearts of all who knew him. His memory will live on in the countless lives he enriched and the joy he brought to his family and friends. David Lee Ferguson will be deeply missed, but his spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have known him.
