David is survived by his wife of 43 years, Flora. He was the devoted father of three sons: David Jr. (deceased), Jayden Roland, and Aaron. Beloved father of one daughter Gina Papadakis (and her husband Panos). Two granddogs, Wolfie (full-size Yorkie) and Chiquita (morkie). One high-maintenance Persian cat, Lilly was his newest grancat who learned to FaceTime him in the evenings.
He is remembered with love by his mother Frances V. Cano and his brothers, Juan Cano (and his wife Maria), Frank Cano, and Mario Cano.
David served his country in the United States Army from 1970 to 1972. He fought in the Vietnam War. As a Vietnam veteran, he earned several medals: National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with Two Bronze Service Stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device, Overseas Service Bar, and the Sharp Shooter Qualification Badge with Rifle Bar.
He cherished discussions of his time in the war with his nephew Joel Garcia, a Field Radio US Marine who served in Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom and son-in-law Panos, served as a Greek Special Forces Marine.
Due to his health at the request of his medical team, it was time for him to medically retire from his chief operations job of 18 years with Sherwin Alumina Co. plant in Gregory, TX.
He was blessed to be with Flora and his children for the remaining of his living years. He outlived his medical team's prediction by thirteen years. The last four years he spent in Austin, Texas where he and his beloved wife wanted to live and have a pleasant quality of life in Central Texas near their sons and most recently joined by their daughter and son-in-law.
David's family will celebrate his life with the evening prayer service on Wednesday, June 7, 2017, at 7 pm.
