Obituary

Dauris Jean Froling White, age 88, went to be with her lord on March 24, 2021.  She was born on January 15, 1933 in Jonah, Texas in Williamson County to Carl Andrew Froling and Lois Staples Froling. She grew up in Normana and the Pettus area then moved to San Antonio after graduating high school.  She married Melvin Kenneth Atkins at Camp Pendelton in California September 12, 1952 and moved to Kenedy, Tx when he got out of the Marines.  They lived in Corpus Christi from 1955 to 1964 then they moved to Houston and returned to Corpus Christi in 1969.  She lived in Corpus Christi the remainder of her life.  She met Hill Calvert (Cal) White after her divorce in 1975 and they got married.  During her lifetime she worked at several different types of jobs but her favorite job was being a homemaker, mother, grandmother and great grandmother known as MeMaw.  She loved gardening, bingo, shopping, traveling, going out to eat and spending time with family.  She was a member of Travis Baptist Church.

Dauris was preceded in death by her parents Carl and Lois Froling, husband Cal White, son Kevin Atkins, sister JoAnn Nelson and Jeannie Ann Phillips (step granddaughter).  She is survived by 4 sisters Frances Moses (Sonny) of Pettus , TX,  Maxine Carson (Randy) of Roseville, CA, Linda Stauffer (Ralph) of Aliquippa, PA and Carleen Scheffer (Wayne) of San Marcos, TX,  2 daughters, Melynda Phillips (Kenneth) of Sandia, TX, Gwen Frisk (Eric) of Houston, TX, 1 son Melvin Kenneth Atkins Jr. (Patsy) of Alice, TX, 4 step grandchildren Joyce Clelleen Phillips (David) of White Sands Missile Range, NM, Cameron Phillips (Jennifer) of London, England, Monica Gonzalez (JayJay) of Corpus Christi,Tx, Jose Arriola (Brittany), of Killen, Al,  6 grandchildren Britt Frisk Pados  (Matt) of Boston, MA, Carl Frisk (Marissa) of Denver , CO, Kristen Frisk (Nick) of Redding, CT, Melvin Kenneth Atkins III (Brenda Perez) of Corpus Christi, TX , Chandler Kyle Atkins (Andrea) of Austin, TX and Suzanne  (Kristi) Dale (Jason) of Austin, TX.  10 step great grandchildren, Austin Rumfield, Steven and Michaela Gonzalez, Micah, Benjamin, Kaytlyn Phillips, Caden and Nathan Smith, Jett and Jace Arriola.  6 great grandchildren Morgan Atkins, Maxwell Dale, Lily, Frank and Caroline Pados, Amitiel Rumfield and lots of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Melvin Kenneth Atkins III the first grandchild was born the day before her birthday and her first great grandchild Morgan Atkins was born on her birthday. They always celebrated their birthdays together.  Mother loved the holidays and as soon as one was over she would start planning the next occasion.  She loved to cook and make sure everyone had enough to eat.  There was always enough food to feed several families.

Public visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 31, 2021 beginning at 10:00 a.m. and a Funeral service to be conducted at 11:30 a.m. at Guardian Funeral Home Chapel ''B".  Graveside service at Seaside Memorial Park at 1:00 p.m.
