IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Darrell Bruce
Perkins
June 12, 1956 – January 25, 2022
Darrell Bruce Perkins, 65, of Corpus Christi and former resident of Kingsville died Tuesday, January 25, 2022. He was born in Houston, TX to Donald Perkins and Mary Bunting Perkins. A graduate of HM King High School in 1974, he played coronet as a member of the Fighting Brahma Marching Band. He was an Eagle Scout and avid surfer on Padre Island, having once traveled down the coast of Baja California for the waves and fun with his friends.
Always busy, he worked at Shep's Chicken Shack and Whataburger, where he began his love affair with cooking. College days began at Texas A & I University (TAMUK) where he was an active member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity, followed by work at the refineries of Pasadena, TX. Returning to South Texas, he finished his BBA in Accounting at Corpus Christi State University (TAMU-CC) in 1983. He went to work in Corpus Christi at Esperanza Transmission, then several public accounting offices, before moving back to the corporate accounting world. At Energy Battery (Corpus Christi) and Dresser Atlas (Alice, TX) he made lifelong friendships with the co-workers and ownership alike. Along the way, Darrell worked outside the accounting field at El Jardin Restaurant (manager) and Dos Vaqueros (co-owner/manager), both in Kingsville. He completed his working life as a wholesale distributor- Battery Supply Co. and working in the oilfield of South Texas.
Separate from work and school he played folk and bluegrass music with his friends in the living room of his beloved Dad's home they shared in Corpus Christi back in the 80's and was eventually a member of several stage bands (Johnson Grass and Rosewood) where they played for fun, beer, non-profit benefits, and a little cash. Camping trips with Dad and friends to Kerrville Folk Festival and other Texas parks were frequent. Also, his motorcycle buddy from South Carolina convinced him to keep an extra set of wheels up there to ride, instead of driving his big bike all the way from Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Kenneth. Survivors include his sister Joy Christopher (David) of Kingsville, step-son Chris Scheu of Arkansas and 7 nieces and nephews. He was a former member of St. Paul Lutheran Church-Kingsville.
A memorial service will be held Monday, January 31 at 2 pm at Guardian Funeral Home, 5922 Crosstown, Corpus Christi, TX.
