Daniel Francis Donnelly

Our remarkable, smart, funny, and devoted husband, son, brother, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend Dan was born August 23, 1945 in Olean, New York, and passed peacefully in Corpus Christi, Texas on October 27, 2021 at the age of 76 after a brief illness. He was the second of eight children born to William Cornelius Donnelly and Kathryn McCready Donnelly. Dan was only eight when the Mobil Refinery transferred his father and the family across the country to Bellingham, Washington. He attended Bellingham High School where he competed in wrestling. After a brief period of service in the Air Force, he married his first wife Kari Moldver who gave him three beautiful children. Dan graduated from Western Washington University with Bachelor and Masters' degrees in sociology. He taught college level courses, worked with adolescents at Skagit County Juvenile Probation, and later was employed in the mental health field until his retirement in 2012. He married his second wife Janice on July 30, 1983, and five years later they moved to Corpus Christi, Texas. Dan was a talented and gifted teacher, and he became an enthusiastic golfer and loved all things golf.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Nancy (Lyall) Radke. He is survived by his wife of 38 years Bonnie Janice Ellington, two sons Daniel Patrick (Heidi) Donnelly and Eirik Lee (Ashley) Donnelly, a daughter Wendy (Mike) Ward, grandchildren Hailey (Justin) El-Smeriat, Blake Donnelly, Samantha Donnelly, Kennedy Donnelly, Tyler Ward, and Mikayla Ward, great grandson Rip El-Smeriat, sisters Kathleen Donnelly, Mary Kay (Bob) Hanell, and brothers William "Bill" Donnelly, Jr., Mike (Kathy) Donnelly, John (LeaAnn) Donnelly, Tim (Jamie) Donnelly, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on November 12, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of the Assumption, 2116 Cornwall Avenue, Bellingham, WA 98225.
