Obituary

Connie A. Castañon passed away peacefully surrounded by her daughter and sister on June 8, 2023 at the age of 82. Connie was born on October 20, 1940 in Mexico City, D. F. to her parents Arturo M. Aguirre and Maria de Jesus Rojas.

She now rests in heavenly peace with her parents, husband, Guadalupe Castañon, son, Richard De Los Santos: sister, Rose Aguirre Herrera, and brother, Arturo R. Aguirre.

Connie leaves behind cherishing her memories, her daughter, Dianna De Los Santos and sister, Maria Elena Mendez; grandchildren: Jonathan E. De Los Santos, Alyssa De Los Santos, Ashley Marie De Los Santos and Isabella De Los Santos: step granddaughter, Clara Vanessa Garza; nephews and nieces- Enrique A. Mendez, Luis J. Mendez, Julian / Michelle Herrera Ortiz, RP/Sheila Herrera Nilsson, Edward/Valerie Herrera Montalvo, Art Aguirre, Albert Aguirre, and Cyndi Aguirre. Also many grand nieces and nephews.

Connie graduated from Roy Miller High School in 1959. Connie was truly bilingual as she had command of both the Spanish and English languages.  After high school, she pursued working at Spohn Hospital where she eventually became a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) in 1961 until 1971.  Connie was an LVN at the Naval Air Station until 1968  where in 1979 took the opportunity to apply for welder apprenticeship and became the first apprentice woman welder. Connie earned several awards at the naval base including  Federal Wage Grade Woman of the year, community Service Volunteer,  Chairman of Federal Women Committee, "Hoods: and Top Guns" leader.  She retired as an aircraft welder.  After retirement, she became a certified activity director for nursing homes.  She was also a certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT).  After fully retiring, she was active in assisting with the establishment of St. Francis Catholic Church at Lagarto, TX. She was a first responder in Carmel Hills during emergencies, volunteer  in the community and became poll watcher in Live Oak county.

She enjoyed her beloved pets, especially Poppy and Heidi who were her last companions. She had a love for gardening and could make anything grow.  She fought a good fight and now is at peace in her heavenly home.

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light…"

All Funeral Services will be held on Friday, June 16, 2023 , Public Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. at Guardian Funeral Home, Chapel B, with departure at 12:00 p.m. to Most Precious Blood Catholic Church for a Holy Rosary at 12:30 p.m. and the Funeral Mass at 1:00 p.m.; Burial will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Park.
