Obituary

Chris Ray Johnson, of Austin, Texas passed away peacefully on February 4, 2023, his 69th Birthday.

He was born in Shreveport, Louisiana to his parents Roy Wilton Johnson and Dora Jane Tyra on February 4, 1954.

Chris proudly served his country in the United States Army. While serving in the Army his Engineering talents aided him in inventing a Go No-Go Tester for Alternators which earned him recognition and honors. Chris and his family were stationed in Hanau Germany during part of his military service. His children still talk about their time and adventure overseas and how one of their siblings was born there.

Chris loved the outdoors and enjoyed taking his family to the lake to go camping, fishing, and water skiing. His grandkids will always break out in laughter remembering hood surfing through the grasshopper field. His great-grandkids nicknamed him papaw knotty head since he always referred to them as little knotheads.

Chris was a dad to six kids – Tracy, Chris, Tammy, Tina, Curtis, and Tiffany. He was papaw to twelve grandkids - Tabitha, Chris, Tyler, Tristen, Cameron, Ava, Travis, Sierra, Curtis, Jillian, Emily, and Nick and Papaw Knottyhead to his three great-grandkids – Izayah, Jasmine, and Chris Jr. (The Boy)

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Roy, Jerry, Ronnie, and David. He is survived by his brothers Troy and Mark, and his sisters Linda, and Rhonda. Along with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.

He always spoke fondly about his many adventures growing up with his siblings. In his efforts to make a living, he held jobs in many trades. He was a Carpenter, Roofer, Mechanic, and a DIY Electrician. His kids would say he could do anything he set his mind to. He valued having a relationship with God and did his best to impart that to his children. I guarantee you; he was a great guy to have in your corner.

Chris will be dearly missed, and we will always cherish his amazing storing telling and the animated way he brought them to life.

We invite the friends and family to leave a fond memory in the guestbook below.
