IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Charles J.
Omundson
December 26, 1929 – November 15, 2021
Charles J. Omundson, an 86-year resident of Corpus Christi, died on November 15, 2021, at the age of 91. He had resided in Corpus Christi since 1935.
Charles, "Chuck" was born on December 26, 1929 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Paul Omundson and Amelia Yarnavick. He was the younger brother to Mary Anne Omundson, and the family moved to Corpus Christi in 1935 to build homes.
The Omundson's settled on Cheyenne Street. Paul and Amelia built homes as Corpus Christi expanded, and as a boy, Chuck had various jobs from shining shoes on the bayfront, to a paper route, all while Corpus Christi still had sea shell roads. Chuck served in the US Army and Reserves at Ft Hood, and returned to Corpus Christi to work for Truckers Equipment, Inc. Chuck remained with Truckers Equipment for the next 62 years, proud of the hard work and lasting friendships made there.
His beloved wife of 30 years, Carol Burns preceded him in death in 1992, as did their son Michael Omundson in 2015. In 1999, Chuck married Kathyrn Brennan, and they spent 26 loving years together, always known as "Chuck & Kathy".
Chuck had a deep passion for Corpus Christi and invested in the community. His passion extended to the heritage and history of the area- enjoying time spent at both his ranch outside Cuero, TX, where he and his son raised cattle. Weekends were spent with a group of buddies fishing in Baffin Bay. Chuck was an admired member of the community, helping others, and was an example of a quiet, steady calmness, influencing all who met him. He enjoyed the music of Kitty Wells, and Bob Wills, working on his bunk house, and travel.
In retirement, Chuck and Kathy spent time together, with friends and family. They loved to travel annually to the San Francisco Bay Area, San Diego, and New York City. In later years they checked off "bucket list" trips to Paris, Germany, Belgium, and Austria.
In 2017, Chuck was diagnosed with Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and COPD, yet true to form, handled it all with calm and strength. He passed as peacefully as he lived, surrounded by loved ones, and "no big deals."
