It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Benjamin R. Barrera, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, who departed this life on February 7, 2026, at the age of 90. Born on November 23, 1935, in La Rosita, Texas, Benjamin lived a full and rich life making cherished memories. Benjamin was a simple and straightforward man. He dedicated 35 years of his life to the City of Corpus Christi's water department, where he became well known for his dedication and commitment to his job. He approached each day with an easy going demeanor, never asking for much, yet enjoying each day that passed.
Marriage and Family
In June, Benjamin celebrated a remarkable 70 years of marriage to his beloved wife, Esperanza Barrera. Their family blossomed and grew, with eight children (four boys and four girls) sharing the wonderful experiences of life under their roof. Benjamin's love extended to his 17 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought immense pride and joy to his life.
Benjamin's Interests
Benjamin's interests were simple yet fulfilling. He found pleasure in spending time with friends and watching his favorite Dallas Cowboys play. He especially cherished the moments when his sons would gather around to play music for him at his home, filling the air with melodies that would linger in his heart.
Preceded in Death By
He was preceded in death by his beloved family members, Rosa Fuentes, Benjamin Barrera, Benny Barrera, and Aleena Valdez. Their memories remain forever etched in the hearts of those who knew and loved them.
