Barbara J. Wiggins-Holman
Corpus Christi , TX
Our beloved mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend Barbara Jeannine Burgess Wiggins-Holman passed away free of pain to her heavenly home in the early morning hours of August 21, 2013 in Corpus Christi, Texas at the age of 76. Barbara was born on February 1, 1937 in Corpus Christi, and was a proud Fighting Texan from W. B. Ray High School, class of 1955. Barbara was once featured in the Caller-Times for successfully earning her Bachelors of Science degree in Elementary Education from the University of Corpus Christi, while raising four children, in 1966.
Barbara professionally educated and mentored thousands of students in her 34 years as a teacher for Corpus Christi Independent School District, where she taught at Oak Park, Travis, Frasier, Crossley, and Crockett Elementary schools. Her dedication to her students and friendship to her peers have spanned several generations of Corpus Christians.
Barbara was preceded in death by her father Albert H. Burgess, mother Lillian M. Burgess, and brothers-in-law Glenn Afflerbach and Tommy Crowder.
Barbara is survived by her brother Robert Burgess, sister Linda Afflerbach, her children Sherry Rice (Oliver), Donna Jones (Duane), Russell Wiggins (Laura), Kelly Martin and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Barbara was continually blessed by the joy of new life with the births of twelve grandchildren and seven great-great children. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 24, 2013 at People's Baptist Church, 1355 FM 665 (Old Brownsville Rd.) and Services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Stan Mitchell officiating. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park.
Proudly ushering Barbara to her final earthly resting location will be her grandchildren: Justin Casarez, Austin Jones, Ben Martin, Kevin Jones, Carson Jones, and Daryn Morton. Honorary Pallbearers are Robert Burgess, Oliver Rice, Duane Jones, and Jimmy Solis.
We would like to thank all those who have provided medical attention and care during Barbara's life, especially Dr. John P. Schulze and his staff, whose dedication to our Barbara will be forever remembered.
