Aurora Martinez entered eternal rest at the age of 93 on Friday, June 28, 2024, in Rockport, Texas. She was born in Skidmore, Texas, to Alfonso Martinez and Maria Benavides on November 8, 1930.

In addition to her parents, Aurora was preceded in death by her siblings: Reymundo Martinez, Israel Martinez, and Salvador Martinez; one grandson, Joel Maldonado Jr. (Jojo); her sons-in-law, Emede P. Martinez and William Herrera; three brothers-in-law; and two sisters-in-law.

She is survived by her three sisters: Consuelo Lopez of Falfurrias, Texas; Esperanza Fewox of Premont, Texas; and Dora Villarreal of Falfurrias, Texas. She is also survived by her six children: Jose (Adela) Calderon of Corpus Christi, Texas; Alicia C. Martinez of Falfurrias, Texas; Arnold Calderon of Falfurrias, Texas; Armando (Cindy) Calderon of Falfurrias, Texas; Alfredo (Aurora) Calderon Jr. of Premont, Texas; and Doris Herrera of San Antonio, Texas; as well as 19 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

During her lifetime, Aurora worked as a nurse's assistant at Brooks County Hospital in Falfurrias, Texas, and as a caregiver to many families in Alice, Texas. She enjoyed conjunto music, singing, dancing, arts and crafts, bingo, and playing Loteria (Chalupa) with family and friends. She was an avid sewer and plantsman with a love for birds. She also loved to cook and bake for her family and friends. She will be deeply missed by her children and all who knew her.

A private celebration of life will take place on July 27, 2024, in Premont, Texas.
