Beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, Bowden Starlin, of Corpus Christi passed away Friday June 2, 2017 at the age of 63. Born in Dallas, Texas, he lived with his parents in El Campo, Texas before the family moved to Corpus Christi when he was 12. Bowden graduated from Carroll High School in 1972.
Bowden married the love of his life, Kathy Kubala Starlin, in 1984. After their daughter Sarah was born in 1995, Bowden left his job as manager of Crosstown Ford's truck shop to join IC Brokerage, and eventually became co-owner. Bowden's family and home life were always his first loves. One of Bowden's greatest joys was being Sarah's father. From the moment she came into his life, he loved every minute spent with her and rejoiced in her personal, athletic, and academic successes.
Bowden was a voracious reader of history and nonfiction books, an active outdoorsman, competitive marksman, knowledgeable birder, and enthusiastic hunter. His fondness for animals expanded in recent years to include a small flock of backyard hens. He loved 1970's rock and roll music and Whataburger. Friends and family loved Bowden especially for his gentle nature, kindness, and sense of humor.
Bowden was preceded in death by his parents, Charles A. Starlin, Jr. and Martha Starlin; grandparents; and Starlin family friend, Shar Lewis. He is survived by his wife, Kathy (Kubala) Starlin; daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Starlin; sister, Leigh Ann Starlin; sister-in-law, Pamela Nye (Tom); brother-in-law, Jerome Kubala; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation with the family will be at 6 p.m., followed by the Rosary at 7 p.m. on Friday June 9, 2017 at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church. Funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. at St. Philip the Apostle Church on Saturday June 10. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bowden's memory may be made to the charity of your choice. The family asks you to fill your bird feeders and bird baths to celebrate nature as Bowden did throughout his life.
