IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Arthur C.
Pederson
August 18, 1941 – March 16, 2021
We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, brother, and grandfather Arthur Clarence Pederson. He gently took the hand of the Lord on Tuesday afternoon, March 16, 2021, surrounded by his loving family, in his home after a long and valiant battle with cancer.
Arthur Clarence "Pete" Pederson was born August 18, 1941 in Galveston, Texas to (father) Almon C. "Mickey" Pederson and (mother) Betty June Pederson (Green) along with his twin sister Patricia Joy Pederson (Hoppe). Pete began life in Galveston and soon moved to Bishop Texas where his father "Mickey" took a job at Celanese refinery. Pete was a Bishop High School Badger. He was active in sports and drama club and was also a Disc Jockey for radio KOPY in Robstown, TX. Music was and remained a passion and calming influence in his life. In July 1961, Pete heard his country calling and proudly enlisted in the United States Army. That service to his country took him around the world and involved tours in Vietnam where he served and cared for injured fellow soldiers as an Expert Field Combat Medic. Upon retirement from the Army, Pete came back to Corpus Christi, Texas where he went to work for Physicians and Surgeons Hospital (PNS) as a surgical technician. It was there that he met his soul mate and the love of his life Christine "Cathy" Meyers (Pederson). Cathy was a nursing student at the same hospital as Pete and met him while in clinical rotations.
The two were married one year later in Karnes City, Texas October 26,1974. While living and working in Corpus Christi, they decided to start a family. In 1979, they were granted a miracle, as they adopted their first child, daughter, Amy Christine Pederson (Jordan). Soon thereafter they got the news that Cathy was pregnant and they were blessed with their second child, son, Anthony Christian Pederson.
Pete was active in the community through Scouting and gave tirelessly of himself over a vast career in service of the program he held in such high esteem. He attained the honor of Vigil member in Order of the Arrow and also received the Silver Beaver (service award). The friends made and fellowship received through scouting remained an important cornerstone in his life and legacy. Anyone who knows Pete, knew he could be found any given Tuesday or Thursday surrounded by his scouting family, solving the world's problems, while having coffee at the local McDonald's. He enjoyed many other hobbies and activities with family and friends including camping, fishing, hiking, fabricating, leather work, and was an avid reader.
Pete will be lovingly remembered by his eternally devoted wife, Cathy, who was always by his side. He was preceded in death by his parents, Almon and Betty Pederson, and recently his brother-in-law, Layne Hoppe. He is survived by his wife, Cathy, of almost 47 years, his children, daughter, Amy Christine Jordan (Joshua), and son, Anthony Christian Pederson (Amber), and his three grandchildren, Jaxson and Addison Jordan, and Avery Pederson. He is also survived by his twin sister, Patricia Hoppe, his niece (Megan) and nephew (King), and many cousins. The family would also like to express their sincerest gratitude for the amazing care received from his team of dedicated medical professionals. We are eternally grateful for the extended time they gave us with Dad.
Funeral services will be held at Guardian Funeral Home on Thursday, March 25 with a viewing beginning at 10:30 a.m., services to be held at noon. There will be a procession and committal service to Veteran's Memorial Cemetery at 2 p.m., followed by a gathering and celebration of this incredible life at Brewster's Street Ice House on Holly Road from 3-5 p.m.
A sincere thank you to all of the friends and family for the kind words and condolences offered during these difficult times.
Donations to Donate Life or The Scleroderma Foundation can be made in his name. There is nothing more that he would want than a cure to scleroderma for his wife. Donate Life gave us 13 extra years with our dad thanks to his son's donation of a kidney. This donation made it possible for him to meet and enjoy watching his grandchildren grow. Please consider donating your organs. It matters.
Until we meet again
