Obituary

The Keomuongchanh family announces the passing of our beloved Aree Petranont Keomuongchanh.

Aree Keomuongchanh was a woman with many talents, strong will, determination, and had a heart full of love and compassion for everyone. We have never, ever, witnessed an unkind gesture to anyone from this woman.

Aree was born on May 4th, 1948 in Bangkok, Thailand. She spent most of her childhood residing in Bangkok with her parents (Jean and Roung Petranont), brother (Phiek), and sisters (Arom and Surisa). She studied fashion and design alongside her sister Arom where she gained immense passion. She learned and crafted her skills in sewing, designing, and love for fashion.

Aree had many talents and trades. Aree learned to speak English at school, through interaction, communication, and interpersonal skills with foreigners when she worked in retail and tourism. In Thailand, she worked in accounting, tourism, retail, hospitality, and she was a loving nanny at one time. Her skills, talents, charisma, and determination gave her the opportunity to come to America in 1988. She lived with her aunt in San Francisco, CA for a few months then relocated to Liberal, KS in spring of 1988.

Aree met her late husband, Roger Orothchana Keomuongchanh, in Liberal, KS. It was not love at first sight for her, but it sure was for him! After many outings, conversations, understanding, and courtship Aree gave into destiny. Aree and Roger married on July 17, 1989 in Amarillo, TX. They honeymooned in Corpus Christi, TX. Aree fell in love with the area and expressed her desire to move there one day. The weather in Corpus Christi reminded her of Thailand.

Through their love, marriage, friendship, and companionship they were a power couple that left an impact on everyone they met. They moved to Garden City, KS in 1992 and made many friends. In 1993 Aree got to live out her dream of having her own business in fashion and opened a clothing boutique. The business became a success and Aree enjoyed it immensely. After a year of trying for a baby, Aree and Roger were blessed with a baby boy, Oliver Petranont Keomuongchanh, born on April 9, 1994.

An opportunity arose in 1996 for Roger to make his wife's wishes come true. He was able to find work and moved Aree to Corpus Christi, TX. They both embrace living along the gulf coast. Aree enjoys the weather and temperature. She loves being able to garden and grow exotic fruits and vegetables. Most of all, she likes no snow!

Aree created many memories and forever lasting friendships throughout her life. She passed away peacefully and without pain on Sunday, January 8, 2023 at 8:28 pm. She was preceded in death by her parents (Jean and Roung), older brother (Phiek), older sister (Arom), husband (Roger), and beloved friends and family. She leaves behind the legacy of her kindness, friendliness, caring, and teaching of her many talents. She also leaves us her sister (Surisa), many nieces, many nephews, friends, and her son (Oliver Keomuongchanh) to continue to love on her behalf.

Aree Keomuongchanh will be cremated at Guardian Funeral Home. A Buddhist Boon and Thaak Baht ceremony will be held in her honor in celebration of her life this Sunday, January 15, 2023 10:00 am at Wat Buddhamahawanaram. Location is 425 S Loop 1604 W Lot 2, San Antonio, TX 78264.
