Antonio P. "Tony" Abarca age 76 suffered a stroke and passed away Monday, December 7, 2020. Tony was born in Corpus Christi on July 9, 1944. Preceded in death by his father Onofre Abarca. Survived by his mother Susie P. Abarca, his wife of 55 years Mary Louis Abarca, his son and daughter in law, Antonio Mark Abarca and Melissa Abarca, his daughter, and son in law Jennifer Flores and Jon Flores. Along with his pride and joy, his grandsons Antonio, Alejandro, Jon, Joshua, and Jacob.
Tony graduated from W. B. Ray High School in 1962. Joining the Navy Reserves before commencing his senior year of high school. After proudly serving in the Navy Reserves and the US Marine Corps, he attended Texas A&I (Currently Texas A&M-Kingsville) and graduated in 1975 with a Bachelors of Business Administration.
Tony was a proud Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps. Honorably serving during the Vietnam War in 1967. Tony made many life-long friends during his time in the military. Every Veterans and Memorial Day he would place flags on the Veterans' graves. Commemorating the lost and forgotten lives he had served with.
Tony loved fishing and hunting. As he got older, he would rather take Mark and his grandsons so he could teach them what he knew. All in hopes to share something he loved dearly. Life was great for Tony. He wanted his boys to have the same happiness as he did.
Tony was known for his teasing jokes and his wildly entertaining stories. At parties or dinners, he would always have countless tales of his eventful life. Keeping the crowd endlessly laughing, contagiously spreading joy, and never letting a single moment become dull.
Tony was always active in his community and served as Chairman of the Cerebral Palsy Board, Coached and was a Board Member of The Corpus Christi Youth Football League and the Oso Little League. He was also a member of the Marine Corps League, LULAC Council 1, and the Cathedral Parish Council.
Tony always lived for others. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to his favorite organization, Marine Toys for Tots.
There will be a service held with Full Military Honors on Friday December 18, 2020 at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery 9974 I.H. 37 Access Rd. at 1:00 p.m.
