IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Anselmo "Joe"
Velasquez, Jr.
November 12, 1962 – April 19, 2014
Anselmo "Joe" Velasquez began his eternal journey on Saturday, April 19, 2014.
Born November 12, 1962 to Anselmo Velasquez Sr. and Guadalupe Velasquez, Joe was raised in Robstown, Texas, along with siblings Jose Angel, Jose Guadalupe, Daniel, David, Albert and sister Maryann.
He met Sylvia Martinez in 1979 and began a 35-year life and family with her in Corpus Christi, Texas. Son Joey came along in 1982, with Wally following in 1986.
The Velasquez family were active together until recently, when the devastation of cancer grabbed onto Joe. An avid softball player and outstanding pitcher, Joe became a long-time fixture on softball fields in our city and others throughout the nation. He was loved and respected by countless family, friends, and acquaintenances.
He was a huge fan of the Atlanta Braves, and planned to travel to Turner Field in Atlanta, Georgia the weekend of Memorial Day of this year. He now, with our Lord's blessings, has the best seats in the house.
Joe leaves to carry on his memory and love of the game to his wife Sylvia Velasquez, who worked tirelessly alongside him throughout the years, and most recently, ensuring all she could to take care of her love. Sons Joey Velasquez (Alejandra), Wally Velasquez (Ashley), heart daughter Alyssa, granddaughter Alexis, grandsons Aiden and Noah, and granddaughter-on-the-way, Arianna Marie. Joe is preceded in death by his brother Albert Velasquez.
Viewing is scheduled for Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at 7pm at Guardian Funeral Home, with services the following morning, Thursday, April 24, 2014 at 10am at the same facility. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens. Pallbearers are Joe's brothers Jose Angel, Jose Guadalupe, Daniel, and David, along and his sons Joey and Wally.
