Angelita Guerrero
Martinez
Aug 29, 1943 — Jun 28, 2026
Angelita Martinez, lovingly known as Grandma Hela, was a beloved mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose strength, resilience, and unwavering love shaped generations of the Martinez family. Truly “tough as nails,” she raised five sons with determination and grit, instilling in them the values of hard work, loyalty, and perseverance—qualities they proudly passed on to their own children and grandchildren. Through her, the meaning of being “Martinez strong” became more than just a saying; it became the very foundation of our family. Though she carried a tough exterior, her love for her family was soft, steady, and deeply expressed through her actions. She showed her love not by words, but in everything she did—making sure breakfast was ready, clothes were washed, folded, and put away, and that everyone around her was cared for without ever needing to ask.
Angelita was the backbone of our family, always encouraging us to dream bigger, work harder, and never settle for less than we believed we could achieve. She lived life on her own terms. Her presence brought comfort and structure, whether it was in the home she shared with family over the years or in the small, everyday acts that meant the most. Many of life’s most meaningful memories were made during the times she lived with us, where her care and presence shaped some of our happiest moments.
A true fighter until the very end, Angelita faced every challenge with unmatched determination. She overcame cancer years ago, and though she lost her voice box during that battle, she never lost her voice. She always found a way to speak her mind, offer guidance, and remind us exactly where she stood. And if you ever heard three loud claps, you knew Grandma Hela had something important to say. Strong-willed and stubborn in the best ways, she stood firm in her beliefs and carried herself with confidence, reminding us all what it meant to stand our ground.
Family vacations, especially our many trips to Disney, will never be the same without her. From our own childhood visits to watching her great-grandchildren experience the magic for the first time. She was always there fearless and full of life. She never hesitated to choose the most thrilling rides and wasn’t afraid to call the rest of us out if we backed down. Her adventurous spirit encouraged all of us to live a little bolder, to be braver, and to embrace life fully.
Angelita Martinez remained Martinez strong until her final days, she leaves behind a legacy that will live on in every member of her family. Though her physical presence will be deeply missed, her strength, wisdom, humor, traditions, and love will continue to guide us for generations to come. We honor her by carrying forward all that she taught us—resilience, courage, and above all, an unbreakable love for family—always remembering that no matter what life brings, we remain Martinez strong.
