Obituary

Alma Dora Garcia Reyes – 1948-2026

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Alma Dora Garcia Reyes, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter,

sister and dear friend who entered into rest on April 23, 2026, at the age of 78, surrounded by her beloved family.

Born on March 8, 1948, in the small town of Benavides, TX, to Leonel & Estela Garcia Sr. where she was raised in

Tienditas, TX. She brought light and laughter to everyone she met, known for her deep Faith, beautiful smile, vibrant

spirit, and unwavering generosity. She graduated from Benavides High School in 1966, moved to Corpus Christi to pursue

a career in Cosmetology and thoroughly enjoyed her career for several years. While she was new to the Corpus Christi

area, she slowly ventured out and met her soulmate, Ernesto Reyes. They were married in December of 1969 and were

blessed to have shared 56 wonderful years of marriage with her “Neto” whom she deeply loved and cared for. After the

birth of her first daughter (Cynthia Ann) she decided to be a stay-at-home mama and enjoy the gift of motherhood. A few

years later her one and only son (Ernest Jr.) was born, and she continued to stay home until he started grade school. The

final child that completed her family was the surprise birth of her second daughter (Candice Marie) whom everyone refers

to as the “princess”. Alma may have been a small woman of stature, but she had the BIGGEST love for not only her

children but thousands of others. She started working for CCISD in 1979 at Fannin Elementary in food services and was

quickly promoted to Cafeteria Manager at T.G. Allen Elementary where she stayed until retirement. Typical of her love for

children and making sure each child had a nourishing but great tasting meal, she was known for adding a little extra spice,

sugar and love to every entrée she prepared. No child ever went without a meal even if it meant she paid for it herself!

Upon retirement in 2004 Alma had much more time to enjoy her family and she quickly became a legend at the Saratoga

Bingo Hall. There wasn’t a Friday night (and sometimes an added day of the week) where she wasn’t early to grab her

favorite spot and almost never a time when she didn’t win. She had great luck and knew the games like the back of her

hand. She shared many years of playing bingo with her beloved daughters, grandchildren and of course her bingo family.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Ernesto Reyes; her children Cynthia Ann (Guadalupe) Quinones, Ernest (Tisha)

Reyes Jr., Candice Marie (Andrew) Reyes. Her grandchildren Brendalyn Ann Quinones, Taelyn Rose Quinones, Randi

Renee Reyes, Reed Ryson Reyes, Jaden Ryan Reyes-Villarreal and Andi Lynn Reyes-Villarreal who brought immense

joy to her life. Her siblings Leonel (Maria Elda) Garcia Jr. of Premont, TX, Vilma (Manuel) Guerra Jr. of CC, TX and Terry

Garcia also from CC, TX and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leonel and

Estela Garcia, Sr. and her sister Maria Gloria Diaz.
