Obituary

Alma Angelica Flores, 74, of Corpus Christi, Texas, passed away on her birthday, September 8, 2026, officially "Alma Flores Day" in the City of Corpus Christi.

Born in Robstown, Texas on September 8, 1952, Alma was a proud Cottonpicker graduate of Robstown High School, Class of 1970. She married her high school sweetheart, Roberto Flores, Sr. Together they made front page news in the Corpus Christi Caller-Times for protesting unfair policies as part of a student walkout. They had two sons, an honorary daughter, then divorced.
Alma soon pursued coursework at Del Mar College.

For the past 30 years, Alma has shared her life with Buster Berry of Tennessee.

A trailblazer and champion for justice, Alma gained prominence as an astute business woman thriving in the male-dominant field of bail bonds. For more than a quarter century, she built a successful business, Alma's Bail Bonds.

Alma earned a prestigious appointment to the Nueces County Bail Bond Board and served several terms as the sole non-elected member alongside the Sheriff, County Judge, District Attorney, District Judge, County Court at Law Judge, Justice of the Peace, District Clerk, County Clerk, and Presiding Municipal Court Judge, regulating local bail bond operations and enforcing state bonding laws in the Coastal Bend.

Alma attained numerous leadership roles as a board member for countless causes enriching our community, particularly families, children, and those in need including the Community Action Agency, Communities in Schools, and Fighting to Rid Gangs in America.

Her passion for the outdoors represented the vast Texas landscape whether fishing the Gulf waters from her custom pontoon boat, traveling cross country in her first-rate Winnebago, or hunting on her La Chona South Texas property in Duval County.

However, none of Alma's cherished adventures measured up to her unconditional love for America's Team, the Dallas Cowboys. A fan for life, her support remained stalwart regardless of their record.

The only thing Alma loved more than the Cowboys was cooking for her family. Her fideo was legendary and inspired her elder son's love of cooking. He became an award-winning chef, achieving top prizes in national competitions. He's now an acclaimed Executive Chef in an elite eatery.

Alma embodied humility. She always put others first and treated the janitor the same as the president. She was completely loyal, supportive, and the life of every party. Her friendship was one of life's greatest gifts.

Alma was preceded in death by her loving parents Castulo Garcia and Blanca de la Garza.

She is survived by her beloved sons Roberto Flores, Jr., Alberto Flores, and her honorary daughter, Air Force veteran Nora Perales and her wife, Pamela; Her grandchildren Ryan Andrew Cabrera, Kyla Marie Cabrera, and Brianna Jade Garza along with her great grandchildren Zyren D. Flores, Fabian Cabrera, and Abigail Cabrera.

Please leave your condolences by signing the guestbook below. An obituary will be published here soon.
