Obituary

Alicia M. Gonzalez, age 93, passed away on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Alicia was a devoted and faithful Jehovah's Witness.

She was born in San Benito, Texas on January 12, 1931.

Her children's words of endearment for their beautiful mother were "our viejita bonita." She was dearly loved and will be missed by all her family, and all who knew her.

Her childhood was spent in Matamoros, Mexico. While in high school she excelled in accounting; upon graduating she pursed employment within the field of banking. She held the title of Assistant Account Executive Secretary for a major bank in Matamoros, Mexico.

She first met the love of her life Gilberto Gonzalez at age 14, becoming high school sweethearts and later married. They remained in the union of marriage and love for 57 years.

After marriage they moved from San Benito, Texas and settled in Corpus Christi and raised their eight children.

She was employed with Mrs. Alice Layton, serving a tenure of 25 years.

Out of her devotion to the ministry, hospitality, and kindness, being an example of love, she always opened her home to visiting congregations, and enjoyed hosting their friends and families along with any visitor with an appetite.

Our sweet loving little mom, knew discipline was important in raising children. She did not spare the rod and all of us knew where she hung the belt. During her earlier years she dedicated her life to serving Jehovah, and loved her ministry work. In her later years, her children always found ways to include her in their daily lives with many family outings. Her son, Manuel, introduced her to karaoke, which brought her much joy. They loved to sing and dance together, these memories will always be cherished.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Gilberto C. Gonzalez, her brother Jose Martinez, and parents Indalecio and Teresa Martinez.

She is survived by her children, Jesus "Jesse" Gonzalez (Diana), Manuel Gonzalez (Rose Mary), Ofelia Colunga (Jesse), Yolanda Casanova, Gilbert Gonzalez (Cindy), Andy Gonzalez (Elva), Laura Lopez (Roel), Maria Gonzalez as well numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Our mom had the hope of the resurrection and the beautiful paradise earth that her Creator promises. She shared Revelation 21:4, and John 5:28-29 with several bible students. She is sleeping peacefully waiting for the resurrection.
