Alice V. Alvarez, 91, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, May 6, 2018, surrounded by her family. Born in Corpus Christi, Texas on February 4, 1927 to her loving parents Conrado and Elvira Vera.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, her husband of 50 years, Ildefonso Alvarez, and two daughters, Cynthia A. Gonzales and Rosemarie A. Barrera.
Alice is survived by her daughters Norma A. (Robert) Olivarez and Melinda A. (David) Bassett, sons Edmund Alvarez, Arthur J. (Donna) Alvarez, Daniel (Valerie) Alvarez, and David (Elsa Zepeda) Alvarez; 9 grandchildren, Rita (Mark Macias), Michael, Aaron, and Thomas Olivarez, Chloe and Julian Pena, Blaise Alvarez, Alexander and Abigail Bassett, and 2 great-grandsons, Joshua Downs and Anthony Macias.
With over 20 years of civil service, she proudly retired from the Corpus Christi Army Depot. Alice enjoyed spending time playing her piano, tending to her roses, and watching her favorite telenovelas. She was also famous for her homemade peanut brittle and fudge.
Pallbearers will be Robert, Michael, and Aaron Olivarez, Julian Pena, Joshua Downs and David Bassett. Honorary Pallbearers are Thomas Olivarez and Arthur Blaise Alvarez.
Public visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Thursday, May 10 at Guardian Funeral Home, with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. that evening. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, May 11, at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church, 3502 Saratoga Blvd. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park.
The family would like to extend their thanks and appreciation to Altus Hospice for their kindness, compassion and comfort during their time of need while allowing Alice the respect and dignity of a peaceful passing.
