Obituary

It is with deep love and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Alfonso A. Solis Jr., who left this world surrounded by family on November 19, 2025. Born in Corpus Christi, Texas, in 1954, he grew up as one of three children and carried the spirit of his hometown with him throughout his life.

A proud Coast Guard veteran, he honorably served for five years before dedicating 28 years of his life to shaping young lives as a beloved P.E. coach at T.G. Allen Elementary School. His passion for helping others extended far beyond the gym—he later served as a counselor for The Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse – Coastal Bend, offering guidance, compassion, and strength to countless individuals and families.

He married the love of his life, Maria Estela, and together they shared 51 years of unwavering devotion. They raised five children—Stephen (Jessica), Michael (Rose), Jennifer (Pedro), David (Leslee), and Valerie—instilling in them the values of family, resilience, and kindness. His greatest joy was spending time with his ever-growing family, especially his 18 grandchildren: Mikey, Tessa, Miranda, Markus, Elly (Tyler), Damien, David Jr., Stephen Jr., Joaquin, Samuel, Marina, Jasmine, Nathan, Jalen, Anthony, Darren, Emmalyn, and Dreiden, as well as his 6 great-grandchildren: Dailynn, Malaiya, Christopher, Alaynah, Aryana, and Penelope (due March 2026).

He adored taking his children fishing and camping, sharing early mornings with the newspaper and a cup of black coffee, spending his evenings watching boxing, and filling his home with the sounds of Elvis, Harry Chapin, and U2. Known for his big personality, warm humor, and even bigger heart, he had a gift for making every person around him feel seen and cared for. Christmas was his favorite time of year—when the house was full, noisy, and overflowing with the family he cherished most.

He was passionate about ensuring that all children—his own, his grandchildren, and the many students he coached—were supported, encouraged, and cared for. His legacy lives on not only in the lives of the family he adored, but in the countless young people he guided with patience, structure, and love.

He is preceded in death by his first wife Herminia Garcia Solis, his first grandchild, Mikey, as well as his beloved parents, Alfonso and Margarita, and his sister Guadalupe. We find comfort in knowing he is now reunited with them in heaven. He is survived by his sister, Sandra Sanchez (George).

He leaves behind a legacy of loyalty, generosity, humor, and unwavering love—one that will continue to guide and inspire his family for generations.

May he rest in peace, knowing his life made a profound difference in the world and in all our hearts.
