IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Alfonso F.
Aguilar
September 8, 1956 – February 18, 2024
Alfonso F. Aguilar rounded 3rd base and made it home on February 18, 2024 at the age of 67.
He was born in Corpus Christi, Texas on September 8, 1956 to his parents Ramey and Beatrice Aguilar.
"Big Al", as many knew him, was a beloved son, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend to many and is now at rest. He was a devout Catholic and received a Catholic education at Christ the King before attending Corpus Christi Academy. Known for his athletic prowess, especially when it came to baseball, he moved on to Moody High School, where he was the pitcher, then graduated early in 1974 from Carroll High School. As if being athletic, intelligent, and handsome weren't enough, Alfonso was also charismatic, and this earned him a job at First National Bank at a young age without a college degree. After leaving the bank, he went on to live an adventurous life where there was rarely a dull moment. His life was anything but ordinary, and he lived it his way until the very end.
He enjoyed watching sports, going fishing, making barbecues, meeting monthly with childhood friends for breakfast, and spending time with his family. He supported Texas teams, but his favorites were the Houston Astros and the Dallas Cowboys. He also supported the Texas A&M University Aggies and was a proud Aggie Dad.
His greatest achievement was his daughters, the four loves of his life.
He will be remembered for his sense of humor, his strong will and determination, his kindness and generosity, and his athleticism, especially his powerful pitching arm. He was resilient and a survivor, beating all the odds before succumbing to his illness after battling it for more than six years.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ramey H. Aguilar and Beatrice Fuertez Aguilar and his sister Irma Aguilar Nieto.
Alfonso leaves behind four daughters: Bernadette (Johnny) Aguilar-Clark, Yvette Aguilar, Jennifer Aguilar, and Leslie Marie Aguilar; grandchildren: Irene Leeann Clark, Brittney Renee Clark, Dylan Alexander Ralls, Abriella Honey Acuna, and Abraham Ryan Aguilar; great-grandchildren: Aubrey Nicole Luna, Zayden Robert Luna, Reign Kamil Barefield, Adalynn Rose Peña, Alaïa Daniella Peña, and Kade Ryan Peña; his siblings: Irene (Joe) Menchaca and Joseph Aguilar; along with a host of extended members of the family and friends whom he loved.
Public Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 25, 2024 at Guardian Funeral Home, 5922 Crosstown, with the Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. that evening.
Visitation will resume at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, February 26, 2024 at Guardian Funeral Home, with the Funeral Procession to depart at 9:30 a.m. for a 10:00 a.m. Funeral Mass at Christ the King Catholic Church; Funeral Services will conclude after Mass.
Pallbearers will be: Dylan Ralls, Joe Menchaca, Jr., Remigio Menchaca, Francisco T. Nieto, Jr., Martin Aguilar, and Andrew Garza.
Honorary pallbearers will be: Johnny Clark, Zayden Luna, and Abraham Aguilar.
The family would like to thank everyone who provided care and comfort for Alfonso during his illness, especially: Dr. Swetha Panati, Dr. Allison Schebler Poulous, Dr. Matthew J. Ficenec, Guadalupe "Gabby" Gonzalez Villalbazo, and the staff at Angel Bright Hospice.
