A Celebration of the Life of Albert Martinez

There are some people who leave footprints wherever they go. They don't have to try, they simply have a way of making people feel welcome, making them laugh, and making ordinary moments unforgettable. Albert Martinez was one of those people.

On July 21, 2026, we said goodbye to a son, a father, a grandfather, a brother, a friend, and a man whose heart was as big as his smile. While our hearts are broken, we gather today not only to mourn his passing, but to celebrate a life that was lived with passion, generosity, and an incredible love for the people around him. Born on February 13, 1968, in Corpus Christi, Texas, Albert had a competitive spirit from an early age. Football wasn't just a game to him—it was part of who he was. As the quarterback for Miller High School and later Tarleton State University, he led with confidence, determination, and heart. Those who watched him play remember his talent, but those who knew him best remember the pride he carried for his teammates, his school, and the lifelong friendships he built along the way. After his football days, Albert found another calling. For more than 30 years, he worked as a legal investigator specializing in personal injury cases. He approached his work with honesty, persistence, and compassion, always striving to help others during some of the most difficult moments of their lives. He earned the respect of his colleagues not only for his professionalism, but for the integrity he carried into everything he did. But if you asked Albert what mattered most, it wouldn't have been football or his career. It was family. His greatest accomplishments were not measured by trophies or titles, but by the love he gave to his children—Jacob, Alison, and Calob—and the joy he found in being "Grandpa" to his precious grandson, Esteban "Blade." They were the center of his world, and there was nothing he wouldn't do for them. 

Albert also leaves behind his father, Robert Martinez Sr.; his sister, Melissa (Loy) Garza; and Laura Martinez, the mother of his children, along with countless relatives and friends whose lives were forever changed by knowing him. He now joins his beloved mother, Mary Lou Martinez, and his brother, Bob "Big Bob" Martinez, whose memories he carried close to his heart. 

If you really wanted to know Albert, all you had to do was spend a Sunday with him. The grill would already be going before kickoff. Music would be playing in the background. Friends and family would be gathered together, sharing stories, laughing until their sides hurt, and cheering—sometimes loudly—for his beloved Dallas Cowboys. Those Sundays weren't really about football. They were about togetherness. Albert had a gift for bringing people together and making everyone feel like family. He was charismatic, full of life, and impossible to ignore. He had a smile that lit up a room, dance moves that made everyone laugh, and a personality that drew people in. He truly never met a stranger. Whether you had known him for decades or had just met him, Albert had a way of making you feel seen, welcomed, and valued. His kindness was effortless, his laughter contagious, and his friendship genuine. The measure of a person's life is not found in the number of years they lived, but in the number of lives they touched. By that measure, Albert lived an extraordinary life. Although we wish we had more time, we are grateful for every memory he gave us—for every laugh, every lesson, every football game, every barbecue, every hug, and every moment that reminded us how precious family really is.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. at Guardian Funeral Home. Following a Memorial mass Friday, July 31, 2026 @ 10 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Family and friends are invited to join in honoring and celebrating a life that was truly well lived. Albert's game may be over here on earth, but his legacy lives on in every story we tell, every smile he inspired, and every heart that had the privilege of loving him.
