On September 16,2019 Abel Barrera, III went to be with our Lord at the age of 47 from natural causes.

Abel was born on September 25, 1971 in Corpus Christi, Texas and lived most of his life Corpus Christi before moving to Austin in 2015. He is survived by his mother and father, Delia and Abel Barrera, Jr.; paternal grandmother Gloria Yturria Barrera; daughters Chloe Dawn (21) and Jasmine Reyna (17) from his marriage to Kelly McCord; siblings Michael Barrera and Alyssa (Cade) Mason; niece Izzabelle; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. He will be remembered by his many friends and love for music that inspired others to love and appreciate music more.
Abel attended Windsor Park Elementary, Baker Middle School, Ray High School (Class of 1990) and Del Mar College. He earned a Bachelor of Education in 2010 from Texas A&M University Corpus Christi. He loved helping people and worked in the service and tourism industries, as well as special education.
Abel was a skilled musician from a young age, starting his first band at 15. Over the course of his life he was bassist for several bands; playing many venues in Corpus Christi and Austin. He also hosted a local access show that highlighted local music in the 1990's. He continued to enjoy playing shows and sharing his love for music throughout his life.

Friends and family may visit the Funeral Home from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, September 20 at Guardian Funeral Home, Chapel A, with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. that evening.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, September 21 at Saint Patrick's Catholic Church 3350 S. Alameda St. with Burial to follow in Seaside Memorial Park. A Post-Funeral Reception will immediately follow the burial at Saint Patrick's Parish Hall until 5:00 p.m.
